2013 TI:ME Summer Workshops

TI:ME 1A Technology: Electronic Instruments, MIDI Sequencing
The objective of Basic Skills in Music Technology is to impart practical skills and knowledge to in-service teachers to allow them to integrate technology effectively into teaching and learning. The course is divided into three sections - notation software, music production software, and the use of electronic musical instruments. The format of each section alternates presentations with class activities, many of which serve to assess
student progress. Satisfactory participation in class activities and the successful completion of several final projects are required for certification.

TI:ME 1B  Skills: Software, Communications & Digital Media
Participants in this course will learn about a variety of digital media and technology-­ assisted teaching and learning tools that can be used to support their music curricula.  Participants will connect to and use instructional materials from the Internet. Students  will also learn to author multimedia projects which include text, graphics, video, and  sound in the digital domain. Participants’ progress will be assessed through completion 
of class assignments, and, at the discretion of the instructor, assignments completed  outside of class time.

TI:ME 2B - Internet Authoring
The objective of this course is to impart practical skills and knowledge to In- Service Teachers (ISTs) to allow them to integrate Internet authoring effectively into teaching and learning. The course covers the creation of Web sites for the music classroom. ISTs who complete this course will create web sites that include lessons and resources appropriate for the K-12 music classroom. ISTs will incorporate digital media including text, graphics, video, sound, and music into their projects. Software to be used in the class will include a professional level Web authoring program and software needed to edit media files. The format of course alternates presentations with class activities, many of which serve to assess student progress. Satisfactory participation in class activities and successful completion of final projects are required for certification. This course meets one
third of the coursework requirements for Level Two TI:ME Certification. Prerequisites for this course include completion of both TI:ME level 1 courses OR equivalent experience.

TI:ME 2C - Integration
This course will provide a venue for creating lesson plans and study units that  can help integrate technology into the K-12 music curriculum. Participants should  be familiar with most of the common applications of music technology including  music notation software, MIDI sequencing, the Internet, and electronic keyboards. 

Participants are encouraged to bring copies of their music curriculum and any other materials that may be helpful in creating lessons and activities using technology. The course will be taught in a hands-on environment. This course is designed for  the teacher who has experience using technology as the goal is to apply the use of  technology in the instructional setting. This course will not teach how to use software.  Maximum of 1 person per computer station, maximum 16 students. This course fulfills 1/3 of the requirements for TI:ME Level Two certification. PREREQUISITE: TI:ME Level One certification or equivalent experience.
