There is an opportunity for students who have finished their daily and/or weekly work to undertake some creative computer projects for the Carmody staff, administrators and teams. When these students finish their daily/weekly assignments, it is possible to assign these students to undertake special assignments for Carmody staff and to be rewarded extra-credit .

Here a list of applications that Dr. Data's 8th grade computer class students can do for individual Carmody staff members. He prefers having students working with computer graphics and artistic layout design rather than just having them doing straight-typing.

  1. Create newsletters in one or more pages with many different layouts available in one, two or three column formats.  Teacher needs to give us the editorial content either printed or electronic copy::  articles, photos, artwork, etc. But we can also find the artwork and photos for faculty members. And the printouts can be done in color.
  2. Create one-page flyers  Teachers will give us the who, what when and where details.
  3. Create 2 X 3 business cards:  Please provide necessary with name, title, and other info plus we can design the logo as well. Carmody staff needs to provide the business card paper stock and we can also print them in color as well.
  4. Design fancy logos with lots of bright colors and creative designs
  5. Design preliminary HTML web pages for you to finalize.  We can Google artwork/photos for you as well.
  6. Create award certificates.  Teachers will give us the title of the award, the recipient, the teacher's name and date you desire on the certificate.
  7. Create calendars.  Teachers will provide the necessary information, such as the incident name, time and place if needed.
  8. Create greeting cards.  Please provide the script and other appropriate information.
  9. Create letterhead stationary.  Faculty need to provide a theme for their letterhead.
  10. Create brochures in one, two or three column formats
  11. Creative preliminary PowerPoint presentations for faculty members to finalize. They will give us the facts, artwork ideas and approximate page breaks and they will have something to polish up.
  12. Creative large banners on multi-pages (sometimes 4 or 5 pages). Teachers will have to trim the pages because our laser printer does not connect pages like a dot matrix printers.
  13. Create gift certificates
  14. Create mailing labels.  Teacher needs to provide the label form which usually is in a two or three column format.
  15. Create Invitations.
  16. Create post cards. Teachers need to provide special card stock.
  17. Create Signs.

Recently, Mr. Tomjack needed flyers for his two clubs, and he got lucky and within an hour he had a 15+ flyers in color.  Students who do these projects will earn substantial extra credit for each project completed because it will benefit Carmody Middle School. The amount of credit will vary on the complexity of the project.  With practice, my 8th grade computer students will gain confidence and real-work experience using computers as they contribute to the Carmody environment. In some cases, selected students will work with faculty members before starting the project to precisely meet your project's expectations.

Hope this helps both the students and the Carmody faculty members. Talented students who participate in these extra-credit projects can also apply to be a student assistants next semester specializing in creative computer generated projects for Carmody.

Till next time,

Dr. Data

P.S. Ms. Kathi Smith already has submitted a two-page newsletter that she wants done ASAP. And Dr. Data already have the data file for someone to fix it up for her. Mrs. Crest would like some award certificates produced for her students. Mrs. Carlson has expressed interest in some projects.

P.S.S. Dr. Data does have a few 7th graders who are now qualified to do some straight-typing for teachers for extra-credit!
