Multimedia Authoring Applications

There are several good multimedia authoring applications that are excellent for music educators in putting instructional CD's, DVD's or web pages without being a muiltimedia specialist. Below are several products that should be perused. In general, you can load PowerPoint presentations, audio streaming, video streaming, text, photos, and graphics all together seamlessly.

  • Articulate for the rapid creation of presentations, quizzes, and training applications at: Trial edition can be obtrained at: http://www.articulate.com/presenter.html for 15 days. QuizMaker is available for download for a 15 day trial at: http://www.articulate.com/quizmaker_trial.html. Everybody apparently has some "hot" new updates forthcoming in the next 30 or 45 days. So, it is an interesting battle of software manufacturers in the multimedia authoring area.

  • As powerful as Macromedia Director is, Macromedia Director doesn't do it all for example, you can't import PowerPoint presentations. But Breeze by Macromedia does. Director does not really convert PowerPoint into presentations; it's more of a multimedia powerhouse to create presentations and applications for CDs/DVDs, kiosks, and the web. It uses Shockwave Player when deployed on the Internet.

  • However, Macromedia Breeze, which does convert PowerPoint into Flash presentations, and allows you to add all sorts of video, audio, web conferencing, and more.: http://www.macromedia.com/software/breeze
  • ezedia has several good products for educators at http://www.ezedia.ca. For example, eZediaQTI uses drag-and-drop technology that lets you create web sites, online presentations, interactive movies and Internet banners quickly - with no HTML programming knowledge require.

For more info about ezedia products with educator insight about it, go to: <http://www.ezedia.com>.

Here is a site where you will find training videos and sample projects http://www.ezedia.com/products/eZediaQTI/index.html Note: The Yarmouth colonies project as it was created by a grade 5 class See the Professional Development area to see teacher web sites. Most of these teachers are not tech savy. Research partner for 4 years this site has ideas for the classroom and resources you can download. Drs Jane and Michael Madden also teach a technology class for local teachers where eZedia is the environment. http://www.jmadden.info/index.html

  • Liquid Media is another great product. Professional Presentation Software capable of stunning Multimedia Slideshows. Brandishing dynamic sound, 3D Animation and cinematic quality special effects, Liquid Media pushes the boundaries of traditional Presentation Software and will create more impact upon your audience. Simply go to; http://www.liquidmedia.net/matrix/index.htm and and you fully understand why it is awesome. Liquid Media is much more than Articulate. We not only import PPT files, but we are also a fully fledged Multi-Media authoring utility, with many more features than Power Point provides. Our Sound/Music and Media support is far advanced to PPT, we provide true 3D sound, the ability to alter music/sound on the fly, volume, panning and even pitch, and also the 3D environment. Our publishing options are also more advanced, being able to pack all media files into single presentations, creating movies from the presentations, even into self-playing executables.

  • CRE:8 is great for making CD's and DVD's. Go to: http://www.presentware.com/cre8.html for lots of information.

  • The last three products mentioned here are very inexpensive for what they do and one doesn't need documentation to learn how to use them out of the box. Hope these manufactures give you some creative ideas. Articulate obviously with quiz maker is quite powerful for designing instructional materials quickly and easily. Liquidmedia's audio capabilities are impressive. There's some good competition here to promote!
